Kornos Pottery Festival

Kornos village is known as the “village of the red clay”. It has received worldwide recognition as its pottery craft is listed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

This picturesque village beckons the crowds to visit its annual festival, giving everyone the chance to become acquainted with the ancient craft of pottery making. The festival lasts for 2 days and welcomes visitors to participate in workshops and learn how the red clay vessels are manufactured from skilful mastorisses (women potters). You will be mesmerized by their artful moves as the wares are done entirely by hand and a foot-powered wheel.

The celebrations peak on the last day with live music, a concert and abundant traditional food.

Don’t miss out the cooking demonstration by TV presenter Chryso Lefou who is preparing Korniotikos Ttavas, a local dish made of lamb or goat meat with rice cooked in a clay pot.

Take a walk around the center to see the potters in action, visit the photo and pottery exhibitions and explore local produces and dishes, from traditional ofto kleftiko to the herbs of the area.
