Phaedo, or Vertigo. A Theatrical Duet

A theatrical duet based on a work by Nobel Prize laureate Marguerite Yourcenar.

On 20 September at 20:00, a special theatrical production will take place in the remarkable atmosphere of Almyra Hotel in Paphos. The performance will be presented by the pool, against the backdrop of the sea and a beautiful sunset, turning the theatre evening into a truly unforgettable event.

The production is based on "Phaedo, or Vertigo" from Marguerite Yourcenar's celebrated collection "Fires". The great writer invites audiences to look into the thoughts, feelings and inner worlds of historical and mythological characters, giving them voice through her unique poetic language.

The protagonist is Phaedo, an aristocrat from Elis and a follower of Socrates. He tells his interlocutor Cebes about his extraordinary fate: his glorious youth as an athlete, harsh trials, liberation from slavery, and path to understanding the world alongside one of the greatest philosophers in human history.

This is a story of memory, pleasure and pain, of human destiny and the search for truth. Through Yourcenar's poetic language, audiences will hear the hero's confession, interwoven with the deepest human emotions.

The production can be seen in a unique open-air setting, while enjoying the sea view and a glass of Penfolds white wine.
