    About This Event

A theatrical duet based on the work of Nobel Prize laureate Marguerite Yourcenar.

On September 20 at 8:00 p.m., a special theatrical performance will take place in the enchanting atmosphere of the Almyra Hotel in Paphos. The performance will be staged by the pool, against the backdrop of the sea and a beautiful sunset, transforming the theatrical evening into a truly unforgettable experience.

The production is based on the story “Phaedo, or Vertigo” from Marguerite Yourcenar’s famous collection Lights. The great writer invites the audience to glimpse into the thoughts, feelings, and inner worlds of historical and mythological characters, imbuing them with her unique poetic language.

The protagonist is Phaedo, an aristocrat from Elis and a follower of Socrates. He tells his interlocutor, Kebet, about his extraordinary fate: his glorious youth as an athlete, the hardships he endured, his liberation from slavery, and his journey toward understanding the world alongside one of the greatest philosophers in human history.

This is a story of memory, joy, and pain, of human destiny and the search for truth. Through Yourcenar’s poetic language, the audience will hear the protagonist’s confession, in which the deepest human experiences are interwoven.

The production will be presented in a unique open-air setting, where you can enjoy the seaside scenery and a glass of Penfolds white wine.
