Eumelia: The Golden Age of Greek Cinema

On October 7, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., the Melina Mercouri Hall in Nicosia will host the musical theater production “Eumelia—The Golden Age of Greek Cinema (1950–1970).”

Greek cinema will tell the story of everyday life and the sentiments of society across different eras. The period from 1950 to 1970 will occupy a special place in the program—the true golden age of Greek cinema, when film production reached its peak.

The music of that era was characterized by simplicity and, at the same time, remarkable creative expressiveness. Many of the songs that filled movie theaters decades ago remain beloved today and are regarded as true classics.

The “Eumelia” vocal ensemble and its director invite the audience to embark on a musical journey through time and relive the vivid moments of youth and childhood that were once associated with the big screen.

Young audience members will be especially welcome—this is a wonderful opportunity to learn how previous generations lived, dreamed, and entertained themselves, as well as to become acquainted with the traditions of Greek cinema, music, dance, and the performing arts.

You’ll enjoy beloved melodies, familiar characters, classic films, and the atmosphere of an era when cinema was a true cultural phenomenon.

Sometimes, happiness really is found in simplicity.

Tickets: adults—€10; students ages 11–17—€5. Free admission is available for certain categories of visitors.

An evening of favorite tunes, old movies, and warm memories—a chance to step back into the golden age of Greek cinema for a few hours.
