Concert by the TratSik String Quartet

The TratSik String Quartet concert will take place on Sunday, 11 October 2026 at 8.30 pm at the historic Axiothea Mansion in Nicosia, Cyprus, as part of the 29th University of Cyprus Cultural Festival.

The TratSik String Quartet is a collaborative artistic initiative bringing together four performers and seven composers from Cyprus’s younger generation. Their main ambition is to create a new repertoire for the string quartet, inspired by the island’s rich musical heritage.

Drawing on traditional Cypriot melodies, the composers reinterpret them through the language and techniques of contemporary chamber music. Whilst preserving the distinctive character of the originals, the composers experiment with rhythm, harmony, form and timbre, revealing new expressive possibilities within the tradition.

Since its foundation in 2017, the ensemble has built up a unique repertoire consisting exclusively of works written specifically for this quartet. Performing in Cyprus and abroad, the ensemble offers a contemporary take on traditional music.
