About This Event
A theatre reading marathon presenting twelve original works by new Cypriot playwrights across four Friday evenings in November and December 2026 at the Theatre Organization of Cyprus building in Nicosia. Free admission with seat reservation required.
The Theatre Reading Marathon titled "Every Reading a World That Awakens" aims to be a live space for meeting and dialogue among young playwrights, theatre practitioners and the audience, giving voice to new stories, different perspectives and contemporary concerns. Twelve new voices of contemporary playwriting, over four evenings dedicated to new Cypriot theatre writing.
On 30 October, 13 and 20 November and 4 December, twelve original theatre texts will be heard for the first time in readings by professional actors of ΘΟΚ, edited by Neokles Neokleous.
The event is the culmination of the long-term theatre writing workshop [It Is Not Only] Words on Paper, under the dramaturgical guidance of the late Alexia Papalazarou in 2024-2025, with contributions from writer Michalis Papadopoulos and general editing by Marina Maleni.
Alexia Papalazarou was a significant presence in Cypriot theatre, making a substantial contribution to theatre creation and to the promotion of new voices. With her sensitivity, knowledge and dedication, she supported emerging creators and encouraged them to find their own theatrical language. The Theatre Reading Marathon, in its own way, continues this valuable legacy.
Fifteen young writers took part in the workshop, taking their first steps in theatre writing. Through a creative process lasting several months, twelve original works were born, which now move from paper to stage, meeting the audience for the first time.
After the presentation of each work, a short discussion with its author will follow, offering the audience the chance to get to know the creators, discover the origins of their works and engage with the process of theatre writing.
