Things to Do in Nicosia This Weekend: 10 Picks (Nov 6-8)

Dimitris Petrolekkas paints places, people and objects that have left the present but survive in memory. The title comes from the ancient Greek adverb for something that happens again and again, and shares a root with the word for a person who keeps returning to one place. Come to the opening night, or catch the paintings later, as they stay up until 28 November.

Oneirovates open the stage, then Coverdose take over with Giorgos Grigoriou Kinezos on vocals, Stefanos Meletiou on drums, Antonis Loizidis on bass and Dimitris Skordilis and Louis Syrimis on electric guitars. The whole night pays tribute to Greek rock of the 80s and 90s, played live by a full band. Bring friends who know the words.

Codex 655, a late 13th or early 14th century manuscript of Ptolemy's Geography, is a particularly rare piece on this guided walk through Cyprus Insula: History, Memory, Reality. More than 200 exhibits, put together by Dr Yiannis Toumazis and Demetra Ignatiou, are arranged in five acts around time, place and people. Maps, archaeological objects, contemporary art and digital applications sit side by side.

Jungle in its classic form through to heavier drum and bass comes from three local artists, LOBNYA, CyFunk and Phat Finxxx, all playing original music. The session starts early and runs until 21:30, and the organisers say you can come straight from work and stay for the whole thing. Entry is free.

Libyan-born and Germany-based, Mustafa Algiyadi brings his new English-language hour, Your Finest Second Cheapest Wine, Please. He picks apart taste, status and self-image, from social pressure and internet rabbit holes to the overconfidence of spending too long inside your own head. It runs about 90 minutes, and buying online saves you a lot over the door price.

Pastitsio is the star in Orounta, and the tasting is on the house. Stalls add souvlaki, hot trahana, pies, loukoumades and crepes, so you can graze your way through lunch. Between plates, browse traditional and handmade products for small things to take home. Giorgos Stamataris and Flora Konstantinou handle the music. The Orunda Youth Center organises it with the Community Council as main sponsor, and the village is a short Sunday drive out of the city.

YouTuber Pavlos Makris joins Kostas Prigkipas for an interactive comedy game show built for children aged 3 and up. The show mixes stand-up, audience games and Makris on stage, so the kids get to take part. This is the last time the show comes to Cyprus, and front seats cost a little more than the balcony.

Koulis Limniotis conducts the Strovolos Municipal String Orchestra in a concert that pairs classical music with Comic Con music. The children's choir Small Volunteers of Strovolos Municipality, led by Kleopatra Charalambous, joins them on stage. The Municipality of Strovolos organises it with the National Comic Con Cyprus Committee, and admission is free.
