Dramedy Concert: “silence Is Golden”

About This Event
The 17th International Pharos Contemporary Music Festival will conclude on Wednesday 14 October with Silence is Golden, a dramedy concert led by the extraordinary soprano Sarah Maria Sun, alongside the internationally acclaimed clarinettist Julian Bliss and pianist Jan Philip Schulze. One of the foremost performers on the contemporary music scene, Sun commands a repertoire of more than 2,000 works, including over 400 world premieres. Bliss is one of the world’s leading clarinettists, praised by the press for his “absolutely immaculate” playing, while Schulze pursues an exceptionally versatile career, appearing regularly on the world’s major stages as a specialist in contemporary music.
Together, the three musicians will offer an intoxicating interplay of seriousness and humour, ranging from Lied and cabaret song to opera, Broadway and contemporary music, in works by Schubert, Gershwin, Britten, Mahler, Weill, Aperghis and Bernstein. Stylish, irreverent and deliciously unpredictable, Silence is Golden inhabits a state of “inconsolable serenity”, where dark irony brushes against tenderness, classical refinement meets Broadway panache, and melancholy is never far from mischief.
