A trip to see the sunset and the moonrise in Madari

We invite all lovers of outdoor activities and breathtaking scenery to join us for our final summer hike, which will take place on Saturday 26 September. This time, the route will take us to the peaks of Madari, where we will see off the setting sun and welcome the full moon at an altitude of around 1,600 metres.

What to expect along the route:
The Teisia tis Madaris Trail: a 3 km circular route (around 1.5 hours), rich in unique Cypriot vegetation – juniper and golden oaks. A chance to see the famous natural ‘walls’ formed by ancient molten magma.

The observation tower (Pirofilakio): a short but steep climb up to the Forestry Department’s tower, which offers a panoramic view of the entire region.

The Pirofilakio–Doxa si o Theos trail: a linear route that will round off the hike. The total distance covered will be around 7 km (about 3 hours, including breaks).

The exact distance will be determined on the spot — the main aim is to reach the summit at exactly 18:37 to catch the fantastic sunset. Then, at 19:49, there will be a chance to see the moonrise.

Important logistical information:
Parking at the summit is very limited! Please leave some cars at the junction where the E931 turns off towards Madari Peak Road and cover the final 2 km together, filling up the spare cars as much as possible.

Eco-initiative:
As part of the campaign to clean up Cyprus’s footpaths, the organisers are asking everyone to bring a small bin bag and a pair of gloves so that, together, we can help keep the countryside clean.

Pets:
Dogs are welcome on the route, but they must be kept on a lead at all times during the walk.
