Deconstruct the Division

The artist residency programme “Deconstruct the Division” takes place in Nicosia from 15 September to 15 October 2026, with artists from Italy, Greece, Armenia and Ukraine.

Starting from division, identity and borders, the participants explore the city and develop new works through meetings and collaborations.

An exhibition and open studio will be presented on 12 and 13 October, at the Common Room of Καφενείο Πρόζακ, from 18:00 to 23:00.

Artists from four countries will present on 12 and 13 October the works they developed with division, identity and urban space as points of reference.

From 15 September to 15 October 2026, the artist residency programme “Deconstruct the Division” takes place in Nicosia, bringing together visual artists from different cultural backgrounds for one month. The programme is organised by Nestopia Creative Hub with the support of ARTrat Collective.

Starting from the concept of division - geographical, social, linguistic and identity-based - the participants work in Nicosia, developing new works through research, observation of the city, visits to other areas of Cyprus, meetings and collaboration with artists and residents. The programme focuses on our relationship with borders and the ways in which they shape the experience of space and the “other”. Nicosia, as a divided city, is the main field of research and creation, while the process places emphasis on meeting, discussion and co-creation.

On 12 and 13 October, from 18:00 to 23:00, the space that served as the artists’ studio will open to the public and present the work developed during the residency programme through an exhibition / open studio at the Common Room of Πρόζακ. The presentation is part of the process, making space for both the works and the preceding research.

Deconstruct the Division serves as a tool for public dialogue through the experience of artists from the international community, focusing on division, memory, the body, language and the experience of urban space.

The programme is funded by the Deputy Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus through the “CULTURE III” programme of the Department of Contemporary Culture.
