    About This Event

The A. G. Leventis Gallery in Nicosia, Cyprus, hosts Dr. Syrago Tsiara — Art Historian and Director General of the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum — for an unmissable Wednesday Lecture on Wednesday, 14 October 2026 at 19:30. The talk takes place in the 'Constantine Leventis' Auditorium and is part of the Gallery's acclaimed Wednesday Lectures series. Reservations are required as availability is limited.

Taking as its starting point the history of public sculpture in Europe from the 19th century to the present day, Dr. Tsiara will trace the changes in the ways art occupies, gives meaning to and transforms public space. The lecture will address historicity, transformation, and the evolving role, forms and audiences of public art, including cases involving the removal or rupture of monuments — phenomena that reflect shifting attitudes towards the management of the public sphere by communities, nation-states and citizens' groups.

🎨 Dr. Syrago Tsiara is an art historian and curator who has served as Director General of the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum since 2022. She studied History and Archaeology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Social History of Art at the University of Leeds. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the role of public sculpture in shaping national memory. She has previously served as Director of the Contemporary Art Centre, the Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art and the MOMus Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as curator of the Greek Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale.

The lecture will be delivered in Greek. The Auditorium doors close at 19:40 — please arrive on time.
