About This Event
This exhibition explores the history of Cyprus through coins and the images and inscriptions they bear. Visitors will discover how currency developed, how trade changed and how rulers used coins to communicate their authority.
The display brings together 136 coins from three collections. Its three sections — Transactions, Narration and Symbolism — examine their everyday use, the stories depicted on them and the meanings of their designs. Highlights include a silver tetradrachm of Demetrios Poliorcetes minted in Salamis and a silver gros of Catherine Cornaro, the last queen of medieval Cyprus.
The exhibition will appeal to visitors interested in history, archaeology and the island’s cultural heritage.
Open Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00–16:30. Closed on Mondays and public holidays. Admission is free.
