AUB Mediterraneo: Official Launch of 'University for All' Programme

The American University of Beirut - Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) will hold the official presentation and launch of the University for All programme, an initiative offering learning opportunities to the wider society, on Wednesday, 11 November, at 18:00, at the Nicosia Youth Centre "Trust 22". The event is open to the public and will be conducted in Greek.
Inspired by the highly successful University for Seniors initiative, implemented by AUB in Beirut, Lebanon, the University for All programme connects the knowledge offered by the university with the everyday interests and needs of members of Cypriot society, through lectures, workshops, classes, as well as educational activities and events. Its aim is to make learning accessible beyond established degree programmes leading to academic qualifications and to encourage members of society to continue learning at different stages of their lives.
"The University for All reflects our unwavering belief that age is not a barrier to learning. This initiative embodies our university's mission, offering an environment for intellectual, professional, social and personal development," said Dr. Malek Tabbal, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at AUB Mediterraneo.
Ms Eliza Markidou, coordinator of the initiative and President of the AUB Alumni Chapter in Cyprus, highlighted the importance of the programme in "providing people with opportunities to explore new fields of knowledge, exchange ideas and share their experiences, while building lasting ties between the university and wider Cypriot society."
The University for All programme of AUB Mediterraneo cooperates with the organisation 55+/-, based in Nicosia, which promotes active living, social inclusion and healthy ageing by offering selected courses and educational activities. As part of this cooperation, AUB Mediterraneo and 55+/- have recently signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, and representatives of the organisation will attend the official presentation of the initiative.
At the official announcement, University for All, having already implemented more than 20 activities during the initial phase of its short operation, will present its goals and announce two new courses: "Longevity and Healthy Lifestyle" and "Digital Skills", which will take place in Nicosia and Paphos respectively. The event includes a keynote speech on Lifelong Learning by Dr. Chara Dimitriou, Assistant Professor of Psychology at AUB Mediterraneo and President of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Psychologists Association (CyPSA).
Through the University for All programme, AUB Mediterraneo aims to strengthen the ties between the university and the communities it serves, creating opportunities for people to exchange ideas, broaden their knowledge and learn from one another.
The American University of Beirut - Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo), based in Paphos, Cyprus, has been approved by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) of the United States as a branch of the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Beirut, Lebanon, and operates under a licence granted by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), which registers the university's study programmes in its official register.
All departments and study programmes of AUB Mediterraneo are accredited in Europe and Cyprus through the Cyprus Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (DIPAE), and are recognised internationally.
The School of Business Administration of AUB Mediterraneo is the first business education institution in Cyprus to have secured EQUIS accreditation from EFMD, an internationally recognised certification of excellence in business administration and management education.
