    About This Event

The 10th Weeks of the German Language returns in November, celebrating a decade of cultural exchange through film, music, discussions, and architecture. Organized by the embassies of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland with Goethe-Institut Cyprus, the festival runs from November 10-19, 2026.

The Week of the German Language returns in November for its 10th edition, celebrating a decade of stories, ideas and cultural encounters. Organised by the embassies of Austria, Germany and Switzerland together with Goethe-Institut Cyprus, the initiative invites the public to explore the German-speaking world through music, cinema, discussions, architecture and education.
A rich programme of cultural events is already underway and, after the film and music evenings, the Day of German Language Teachers 2026 takes place on Saturday, 7 November. Participants can expect a varied programme with practical workshops on topics such as artificial intelligence, local customs, phonetics and working with learners who have learning difficulties. In addition, the event offers many opportunities for professional exchange and networking with other German language teachers from across Cyprus.
A film screening follows. The Frog and the Water (2025), directed by Thomas Stuber, will be presented by the Embassy of Switzerland on 10 November at the Pantheon. When Stefan Busch, known as Buschi, spontaneously joins a Japanese tour group, he meets Hideo Kitamura and an unexpected friendship develops. With warmth and humour, the film celebrates the power of human connection across borders.
The German comedy Oh, This Unspeakable Void (2026) by Simon Verhoeven, winner of three awards at the German Film Awards 2026, follows on 11 November at the Pantheon, a screening organised by the Embassy of Germany. It is a humorous coming-of-age story about a young aspiring actor who faces the challenges of drama school and life with his eccentric grandparents.
To appeal to German learners and young audiences, the Goethe-Institut partner schools and members of the global PASCH Schools network: Partners for the Future, The Heritage Private School and The International School of Paphos, will host screenings of the children's road movie and literary adaptation What the Finn?! Summer of Surprises (2023) by Stefan Westerwelle on 13 November. Full of adventure and touching moments, the film offers fun for the whole family, giving young audiences an enjoyable opportunity to experience German-language cinema.
The series of events concludes on 19 November with a lecture organised by the Cyprus German Cultural Association titled 100 years Bauhaus Dessau. In this lecture, held at CYENS, two experts will discuss the lasting influence of the Bauhaus and the role of digital technologies in contemporary design and architecture.
